 Actually a biennial that reseeds itself. Loved by swallowtail butterflies. Full sun, fertile soil. great for bronze foliage against other flowers.

Fern, Japanese Painter - Athyrium niponicum Pictum

   Grows to 18 inches tall. This multi colored leaf fern gets its best color if grown in the shade.  Great grown with other perennials like hosta were the contrast really makes a statement. Zone 4 - 9.
 

Gaura, Whirling Butterflies

   Pink flowers on tall 36" stems that look as though they dance on top of the plant. This plant loves to flower. Best if planted in a warm location as it loves the heat, against a wall is great. Full sun, fertile soil. Zones 5 - 9.
 

Gay Feather - Liatris spicata 'Floristan Violet'

    Easy plant to grow that is long lasting. The flowers start to open from the top down. Butterflies love this plant. Can become floppy, best to have support in front of, or allow it to come up amongst other perennials. Flowers purple in mid to late summer. Height 24 to 30 inches. Full sun, part shade, average to fertile garden soil. Will reseed.

Globe Thistle - Echinops ritro

  Plant grows to 3 1/2 feet, thorns on leaves. Deadhead if you do not want babies. Produces a round purple/blue seed head. May be dried and used for arrangements, it holds the purple/blue color after drying. Also known as the hedgehog plant, Echinops stands for hedgehog. Blooms in summer. Full sun, average to poor soil. Best used in a mixed border or for cut flower.
 

Helleborus argutifolius 'Pacific Frost

   A variegated selection of hellebore with dark green leaves, speckled with white. Ivory colored blooms appear above the leaves in late winter or early spring. Deer resistant plant. Part shade to shade. Spreading habit. Height to 2 feet. Zone 5 to 9.
 

Hibiscus, Luna White

   Up to 3 feet tall. Bloom time summer to early fall. White flowers with a pink center. Great for the back of the border. Full sun, average to moist soil. Zone 5 - 10.
 

Hollyhock  "Watchman" - Alcea

Dark purple flowers almost black, grow in clusters on a 4 to 6 foot stem. Grown by Thomas Jefferson. Likes full sun, fertile soil. Great flower for the back of a border.

   Thick blue leaves with a puckered texture. White flowers on a 24 inch stalk in June. Slug resistant. Likes shade, tolerates dappled shade. Prefers a average to fertile soil.

   Medium 18" high by 40" wide. Lavender flowers. Center of leaf changes from green to gold, with a white 1/4" margin. Prefers shade to dappled shade. Fertile to average garden soil.

   Dark green leaves, on a 24 inch plant. Flower stalks to 30 inches, white fragrant flowers. One of my favorite hostas because of the scented flower. Flowers in summer to late summer.
 

Hosta "Summer Music" - Hosta

This spectacular hosta is distinguished by its large white leaf center bordered by a chartreuse margin; a yellow-gold area is seen between the two colour patterns. Bright morning sun to grow well. 12 inches tall, in average to fertile soil.
