Mum Winter Protection Tips

In northern states hardy mums are not always hardy, but with some extra care mums can be saved for the next year. As frosts approaches make sure the soil is moist. Mulch plants after several hard frosts. Removing dead plant material should wait till spring. I have read that people have had good luck with removing the dead plant material and replanting the root ball upside down. Turning back over in the spring. In April remove all dead mum material and pull back the mulch.
